The journey began in the mysterious wetlands of the Deep South, and will continue up through the Appalachian Mountains and north along the Atlantic Coast. From there he will travel into the countryside of New England, down into the Rust Belt and abandoned industries of the Northeast, then into America’s Heartland in search of farms and smalltown life. In the following years, Holt will make his way west, seeking out the Wild Mustangs and iconic cowboys and ranchers of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, then spend his summer in Alaska in search of a vanishing frontier wilderness.
The images he brings back will be both beautiful and shocking as we are shown man’s encroachment on nature, nature’s changing ecosystems, and our own forgotten cultural icons.
Articles, photo essays, books, Fine Art gallery exhibitions, and a documentary will be forthcoming.

A M E R I C A I S C H A N G I N G F A S T ... The Vanishing America Project is a mulit-year journey I’ve undertaken to use my skill as a photographer and a writer to promote conservation and raise awareness about what we are losing – our culture, our wildlife, and our landscape – in hopes that some of it will still be around for future generations to enjoy.
My goal as an artist is to effect change with beautiful images that would stir your soul, tug on your heartstrings, and compel you to protect those things in your world that you cherish most. Take special care of those places and things that stir your soul. Because, if you don’t, they’ll be gone before you know it.
“America is changing fast. And, sometimes change is good. But sometimes change destroys the things we love about our country. Hopefully these images, and the ones that will follow as I travel across the United States, will remind people how precious, how ephemeral, and how important these aspects of our country and our culture are."
