Overland Expo.2009 ~ Adventure, Exploration, & Conservation

Overlanding is a different way of exploring our world - whether 100 miles or 10,000 miles from home - in comfort, safety, and style. It's camping like you've never experienced.

Overland Expo.2009 is an all-new and exclusive event for people who see their 4WD or ADV motorcycle as a means to adventure and exploration, and who see travel as a portal to learning about the world, as well as a means to conserving its beauty and preserving its unique cultures.

No other event for 4WD or motorcycles combines intensive education modules, social opportunities to visit with hundreds of other enthusiasts and to share information and experiences, and a wide array of product and service vendors just for overlanding-related activities, both mechanized and human-powered. Service and conservation organizations, land agencies, and clubs/associations will also be on-hand April 24 - 26, 2009."

It's amazing to see all the diverse ways that people travel, but what is most impressive is that every single one of these travelers respects the natural world and does their very best to "leave no trace"... even in the biggest of the big rigs. The bottom line is this: "If you don't take care of the places you go, you'll never be able to go there again." I like that sentiment.

I'll be in classes all day today, learning about vehicle safety, navigation, how to pack efficiently (which I desperately need), how to repair a tire in the field, etc. So, I'll be very busy, but I will do my best to update you every day with stories about the people I meet and the things I see.

(And, maybe, if I'm lucky, I will meet some folks who might be interested in helping keep The Vanishing America Project on the road...)

So this is the "Pimp My Ride" episode of Vanishing America!?! I like it, would like to learn more about the motorcycles and what they carry and how. I see a nice KTM in one of the pics. Keep it rollin'!
