TREMBLING EARTH |
To those who see every bit of land as an opportunity to build, America's swamps and wetlands are just a pond to be drained. But these unique landscapes are the home to flora and fauna that can be found nowhere else on earth. And, despite their seeming longevity, they are fragile ecosystems that can be ruined by the slightest impact. Hundreds of wetlands in America have already been lost -- drained for farming and development. It takes thousands (and sometimes millions) of years for a wetland to mature, so we must cherish the few that remain.
